Car Roof Snow and Ice Is Not Nice

Direct Link to Post

Warning: Clean the snow off your car roof as soon as you can. Do not let it keep building up.

Here are 2 dangerous roof sliding snow examples from yesterday. About noon I saw a car with a roof full of about 10 inches of snow. They came up at a traffic light and stopped very quickly. Unfortunately the whole big clump of snow did not stop. It slid down the windshield at about 30 MPH. Not only was the driver blinded by the snow/ ice clump on the windshield, but it destroyed both windshield wipers and dented the hood. The wiper arms were bent into a terrible mess. It took two people to lift the chunks of ice and snow from her car.

Event number 2 was on I-71. I was about 8 car lengths behind a van with a roof full of snow. Seconds later the ice and snow berg were airborne heading toward me. Luckily they landed and smashed in front of my car and not on it.

2010 Snow lesson #13- Keep your roof clear and beware of following too close to those that do not!

Auto insurance would have covered my damage but I would not likely catch the person that caused it.
